Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an approach to health that considers the whole being, including the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual body. It is a branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) that has been used for over 3,000 years to treat many different diseases.

Acupuncture is effective because it works on the central nervous system by restoring balance between the parasympathetic (rest and digest) and sympathetic (fight-or-flight) activity, and by modulating adaptive neurotransmitters within the brain to alleviate autonomic response to stressors and trauma. Chronic illness and pain are often the result of living in a sympathetic dominant state for too long.

In addition, acupuncture works on the blood vessels by enhancing the flow of blood and energy throughout the body via the insertion of thin needles into acupuncture and trigger points. If there is an area in the body that is obstructed due to inadequate circulation, either as a result of physical trauma or illness, disease and malfunction can occur. This can result in pain and/or organ dysfunction such as gastrointestinal issues, anxiety, insomnia, back pain, etc.

However, blood contains all the ingredients it needs to heal the body, including analgesics, anti-inflammatories, hormones, oxygen, and pleasure-inducing neurotransmitters. Therefore, by removing the obstruction and restoring proper circulation, the body can heal itself and return to its natural state of balance.

Additional Benefits

  • Releases feel-good hormones like endorphins and oxytocin, which are responsible for elevated mood, increased awareness, and pain relief

  • Increases blood and lymphatic circulation via blood vessel dilation, resulting in oxygen and nutrient delivery to organs and tissues, and efficient waste removal

  • Decreases inflammation and relaxes muscle tension, while aiding in improved joint mobility

  • Supports the immune system by increasing the production of red and white blood cells & T-cells

  • Activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping the body to relax and destress

Chakra Balancing Acupuncture

The chakras, major organs, and nerve bundles are all interconnected in the complex system that is the human body. Esoteric Acupuncture takes a holistic approach to address the root cause of an ailment by focusing on the organs, emotions, hormones, and spirit of the individual. With the use of needles to stimulate specific acupoints, the flow of energy can be corrected, removing any blockage or imbalance. This leads to a restoration of balance and harmony in the physical and emotional aspects of an individual's life, as well as their spiritual well-being.

Benefits:

  • Restoration of energetic states to their pre-disease level

  • Cleansing and enhancement of organs and subtle bodies

  • Harmonization of chakras and balancing of hormones

  • Attunement to one's soul purpose

  • Increased energy levels and overall sense of well-being

  • Reduced stress and anxiety

  • Improved sleep quality and immune function

We can’t stop the aging process, but we can take steps to minimize the appearance of it.

Woman skin during lifecycle including acne, scars, wrinkles, skin sagging, clear skin

Using a variety of treatment techniques, we can help reduce the appearance of:

  • Fine lines & wrinkles

  • Sagging skin & drooping eyelids

  • Age spots & skin discoloration

  • Acne & blemishes

  • Scars & facial paralysis

Our facial rejuvenation is a natural procedure that requires a commitment to a series of treatments. This treatment enhances muscle tone, strengthens and firms the skin, and improves overall health and well-being. Facial acupuncture is less painful and safer than many other procedures, and no downtime for recovery is necessary.

We take a whole-body approach to this technique, as the health of the body is reflected in the face. Our physician will discuss your medical history, conduct a thorough intake, and perform a facial diagnosis during the initial appointment. From there, she will provide the course of treatment and make the necessary lifestyle recommendations for the patient.

After the initial appointment, it is recommended that you commit to having treatment twice a week for 6 weeks. After the initial treatment cycle, maintenance is recommended on an as-needed basis. Most patients will typically receive 1-3 treatments per quarter to sustain results. In healthy individuals, results will last 2-3 years if the lifestyle advice is adhered to.

Fire Cupping

Cupping therapy is a technique that involves applying a partial vacuum to the skin using either heat or suction, which helps to relieve local congestion. This technique pulls the fascia surrounding the muscle, increasing blood flow and oxygen to the affected area. As a result, it can assist in lymphatic drainage and promote cellular repair of an injury. Cupping therapy can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including the common cold and musculoskeletal pain.

Additional benefits include:

  • Increased flexibility and range of motion

  • Relieves muscle tension and spasms

  • Pain relief

  • Elimination of toxins and flushes the adrenal glands

  • Reduces fluid retention and edema

  • Promotes a deep sense of relaxation

Biopuncture Therapy

Biopuncture, also known as Acupuncture Injection Therapy (AIT), involves injecting natural substances such as homeopathic remedies, herbs, vitamins, amino acids, and other nutraceuticals directly into acupuncture or trigger points. The solution is injected by a hypodermic needle either subcutaneously or intramuscularly, using microdoses.

Conventional medicine typically involves suppressing the immune system to manage symptoms and pain. However, this often leads to a dependence on the substance used and can cause various side effects such as tendon injury, loss of cartilage, and hormonal imbalance when using cortisone injections.

Biopuncture takes a different approach, promoting long-lasting health by providing the body with the necessary building blocks to self-heal and accelerate tissue growth. It also modulates the immune system's natural response to injury or illness by alleviating pain and inflammation.

Research has shown that biopuncture is a safe and effective alternative to NSAIDs and steroid injections when performed by a certified AIT practitioner. There is no downtime or recovery time required with biopuncture. Often, patients notice significant changes after a single session, although multiple sessions may be necessary for long-term results. Depending on the condition, "booster" sessions may be necessary for wellness and prevention.

What is gua sha?

Gua sha is effective in treating:

  • Muscular Pain and Spasms

  • Osteoarthritis

  • Sports injuries

  • Sciatica

  • Piriformis Syndrome

  • IT Band Syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Migraine Headaches

  • Post-Concussion Syndrome

  • Wrinkles and Fine Lines

  • Edema

  • Common Cold and Flu

Gua Sha is an ancient technique that involves using a smooth rounded edge tool to firmly scrape the skin. This helps to restore circulation, increase range of motion and flexibility, and release the fascia of affected muscle by breaking down adhesions (scar tissue). Additionally, Gua Sha is commonly used as an adjunct therapy for the treatment of colds and flu as it stimulates the immune system and promotes lymphatic drainage.

At Ayni Pacha, this technique is frequently used to treat post-surgical scarring and sports injuries.

What is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion, often referred to as moxa, is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy that involves burning dried mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris) on or near the skin's surface at specific acupuncture points. The heat generated by burning the mugwort is believed to stimulate the flow of vital energy (Qi) in the body, promote balance within the body’s energy pathways meridians, and enhance healing.

There are various forms of moxibustion, including direct and indirect methods. In direct moxibustion, a small cone or stick of compressed mugwort is placed directly on the skin and burned. Indirect moxibustion involves burning the mugwort on top of acupuncture needles or on a medium such as ginger or salt. Moxa can be used alone or in conjunction with acupuncture as part of TCM treatments.

Moxa Benefits:

  • Improves blood circulation

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Alleviates musculoskeletal pain, arthritis, and menstrual cramps

  • Regulates energy and Blood flow

  • Boosts immune function

  • Supports digestive health

  • Promotes relaxation and improves sleep

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

  • Restores balance and promotes optimal health

MPS Therapy

Microcurrent Point Stimulation (MPS) therapy is a cutting-edge, needle-free treatment that uses brief, concentrated DC micro-current impulses to target trigger points or specific areas of discomfort. This therapy helps relax muscles, calm the nervous system, and release endorphins, making it highly effective for managing both acute and chronic soft tissue pain. MPS therapy works by regulating the muscular, nervous, and endocrine systems, providing relief for those suffering from muscle tension, nervous system disorders, and various pain conditions. By sympathetically deregulating the autonomic nervous system, MPS effectively addresses pain at its source.

For individuals with needle sensitivity, such as those with needle phobia or children, MPS therapy offers a non-invasive alternative to acupuncture. It delivers all the therapeutic benefits of acupuncture without the need for needles, making it a comfortable and effective option for pain management and nervous system support.

Scar Release Therapy (SRT), also known as Neural Therapy, is a specialized technique within MPS therapy that targets scar tissue, which can be a hidden contributor to chronic pain. By applying micro-current directly to scars, SRT helps repolarize local tissue, releasing fascia and muscles affected by the scar. This can restore normal tissue function, improve blood flow, and significantly reduce chronic pain. Releasing scar tissue is often a key factor in comprehensive pain relief, addressing underlying issues that may not be resolved by other treatments.

MPS therapy’s ability to target multiple systems and offer a needle-free alternative makes it an innovative solution for those seeking relief from pain, scar-related issues, and nervous system imbalances.

Side Effects of Scars:

  • Chronic pain

  • Activates stress responses

  • Injures fascia, leading to tension and restricted movement

  • Inhibits lymph flow, slowing down healing and detoxification

  • Restricts functional movements and flexibility

  • Can disrupt nerve signaling, contributing to ongoing discomfort

MPS Therapy Benefits:

  • Breaks down scar tissue adhesions, improving mobility and reducing pain

  • Treats spine-related issues, including radiculopathy (nerve root entrapment)

  • Alleviates post-surgical pain by releasing tension in the affected tissues

  • Provides relief for chronic back pain and neck pain

  • Effectively treats musculoskeletal pain by addressing the underlying nervous and muscular imbalances

  • Enhances overall nervous system regulation, promoting faster recovery and long-term pain relief

Testimonials

  • Accommodating, friendly, all around incredible. Dr. Harper worked with my crazy schedule and made sure I was out on the pitch with my teammates the following season. After I endured my third ACL tear, I thought it was the end of my college career. But after weekly acupuncture and a series of injections, I'm back pursing my dreams. She kept my coach and athletic trainer up to speed along the way. Thank you!!!!!

    Allie, Winter Park

  • A true miracle worker with healing soul. I had agonizing shoulder pain when I first walked in. I could not lift my arm or rotate. After the first treatment I noticed immediate relief in pain level. Third treatment and the pain was completely gone and has not returned. That was six months ago.

    Svetlana, Orlando

  • Forced manipulation during a chiropractic adjustment caused my rotator cuff to tear and with only a few months before baseball season began, I was desperate for help. A friend recommended Dr. Harper and I can't thank you enough. The pain and swelling went down after my first visit. The formulas helped a lot. After a month of treatment and doing the hw I was assigned, I was able to attend spring training and pitch without any discomfort. Thank you for your work.
